Our institute and Center for European Studies of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences held a seminar together on March 17th, 2008 and invited Dr. Armand Clesse, Director of the Luxembourg Institute of European and International Studies to have academic exchanges with the experts on European Studies from our institute, Fudan University and Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, etc., such as Prof.Wu Yikang, Prof. Xu Mingqi, Prof. Dai Binran, Prof. Zhang Zuqian and so on.
Dr. Clesse focused on the deep meaning of European integration, the problems of whether EU should consolidate its achievements on integration or continue to absorb new members and push forward integration in new areas under the current international political and economic environment and if the EU members can well protect their economic and financial interest without the fully integrated and strong political and military power, etc. He discussed these topics in depth with the scholars and experts present the meeting. Everyone expressed his opinions and got a lot of new insights. This academic discussion achieved a successful result.
