On the afternoon of March 13th, Ambassador Karel Kovanda, the former deputy secretary general of the European External Action Service under the European Commission, paid a visit to the Shanghai Institute for European Studies on invitation. He made a discussion over important issues of current EU-China relations with Dai Bingran, Wu Yikang, Xu Mingqi, Zhang Zuqian, Wang Yiwei, Zhang Haibing, Cao Ziheng, Ye Yuming, Yang Haifeng, and some other members of the secretariat of SIES. On the afternoon of March 23rd, another academic discussion was held between Ambassador Karel Kovanda, and Chinese scholars including Zhang Zuqian, Pan Zhongqi, Wang Yiwei, Zhang Pei, Li Lifan, Xin Hua, Cao Ziheng, and Yang Haifeng, over the issues related to the globalization of NATO and its relations with China.
