On the afternoon of December 23rd of 2012, the fifth assembly and the 2012 annual academic conference of SIES were held in East China Normal University. This assembly and annual academic conference were sponsored and organized by the School of Advanced International and Area Studies, East China Normal University. Professor Fan Jun, vice president of the East China Normal University, and Professor Dai Bingran, president of SIES, made the opening speeches. The annual academic conference was presided by Professor Feng Shaolei, vice president of SIES, and Professor Ye Jiang. Focusing on the topic of "Prospect of the Europe and the China-EU Relations", several professors made keynote speeches. Firstly, Professor Xu Mingqi talked about "European Debt Crisis: Different Perspectives and Viewpoints", and Professor Ding Chun discussed on "the Policy Implications of EU's Latest Measures for Handling the European Debt Crisis". And then Professor Dai Qixiu made a speech on the "Prospect of Resolving the European Debt Crisis". In the end Professor Yu Nanping and Professor Pan Guang talked about "the Analysis on the Prospect of Asia-Europe Cooperative Mechanism". This assembly and academic conference were attended by nearly 70 members of SIES from major universities and academic institutions in Shanghai. Ms. Wang Kemei, the director of the Department of Affairs of Academic Associations and Institutes of the Shanghai Association of Social Sciences, and Mr. Liang Yuguo, participated in this assembly and academic conference. On behalf of the leaders of the Shanghai Federation of Associations and Institutes of Social Sciences, Ms Wang Kemei extended her congratulations on the success of this assembly and the creation of the new executive board of SIES. She also presented her sublime respects to the old leaders of SIES for their outstanding contributions. Finally, she wished that the new executive would construct SIES into an internally solidified and externally influential academic association and research institution.
