On the afternoon of December 26th, the 2015 annual conference of the Shanghai Institute for European Studies (SIES), operated by the Europe Research Institute of the East China University of Technology, was held in the Yifu Building of that university. The opening addresses were respectively made by Prof. Yan Haifeng, the dean of the business school of that university, and Prof. XU Mingqi, the president of the SIES. The meeting was presided successively by Prof. YANG Fengming, vice president of the SIES, and Prof. CHEN Zhimin. In the conference, members of the SIES deliberated and passed the 2015 Annual Working Report of the SIES presented by Dr. CAO Ziheng, secretary-general of the SIES. Over 60 members of the SIES participated this annual conference.
After the passing of the 2015 annual working report, participants of the conference made academic exchanges and discussions on the topic of “the Europe in the 2015: Crisis and Responses”. Over 14 experts and scholars, namely, ZHANG Yongan, DING Chun, PAN Xingming, QIAN Yunchun, HU Jian, ZANG Shumei, YAO Qinhua, ZHENG Chunrong, XIAO Yunshang, CHEN Qi, ZHANG Ji, XIN Hua, and XIA Liping, made presentations on this topic, and discussed the challenges and prospects of the politics, economy, and social affairs of the European Union on the issues related to the anti-terrorism, refugee crisis, Arctic policy, cultural pluralism, and European-Chinese cooperation on the “One Road One Belt” initiative. All the participants of the conference made lively and extensive discussions and debates on these issues. Finally, Prof. XU Mingqi, president of the SIES gave concluding remarks.
