SIES Held the Academic Symposium on “Europe at the Crossroad”

 On the afternoon of March 10th, 2018, the academic symposium on “Europe at the Crossroad” was held in the small auditorium of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), under the sponsorship of the Shanghai Institute for European Studies (SIES) and the European Studies Center of the SASS. The participants of this symposium focused their discussions on three major topics: “Brexit and European Integration”, “European Economy and Political Ecology”, and “Europe’s Diplomacy and Sino-European Relations”. Keynote speeches were presented by Prof. YE Jiang, Prof. CHEN Yugang, Prof. DING Chun, Prof. ZHENG Chunrong, Prof. XIN Hua, and Prof. ZHANG Ji. This symposium was participated in by over 90 scholars and students, who were either experts and professors of European studies from different universities and research institutes in Shanghai, or postgraduate students and Ph.D. candidates of related majors. They held enthusiastic discussions. The sessions of this symposium were presided respectively by Dr. JIANG Feng, Secretary of Chinese Communist Party’s Committee of the Shanghai International Studies University, Prof. YANG Fengmin, dean of the European Union Research Institute of the East China University of Science and Technology, and Prof. LIU Jun, Dean of the Research Institute of International Relations and Regional Studies at the East China Normal University. They are all vice presidents of the Shanghai Institute for European Studies. Finally, a concluding remark was made by Prof. XU Mingqi, Director of the European Studies Center of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and President of the Shanghai Institute for European Studies.
