SIES Jointly Held a Seminar on “General Election of European Parliament and New Trends on Populism”

   On April 26th, 2019, the seminar on the “General Election of European Parliament and New Trends of Populism” was held in the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies. This seminar was jointly sponsored by the Shanghai Institute for European Studies (SIES) and the Shanghai Institutes for International Relations (SIIS). On this meeting, participants made in-depth discussions on a series of topics that were closely connected to the European Parliament election of this May, such as: the theories of populism, the populist phenomena of major European countries and sub-regions, the overall performances of major populist parties, their policy orientations, the social roots of their rise, the influences of these phenomena and parties on the European Parliament elections, and the influences of European populism on European integration and China-Europe relations. This seminar was participated in by over 20 scholars and experts from the Shanghai Institute for European Studies, the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS), the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR), Beijing Normal University, Fudan University, Tongji University, Shanxi University, and the Party School of Shanghai CCP Committee.
