On the morning of December 14, 2019, the 10th Shanghai Youth Forum for European Studies - New Challenges Facing the European Union under the New Situation was held at the East China University of Science and Technology. Dr. Haifeng Yang, Secretary-General of SIES, presided over the opening ceremony and read a written speech by President Xu Mingqi. The president addressed and expressed his sincere thanks to the young scholars who actively participated in the forum, the academic seniors who have long paid attention to and supported the development of young scholars, and the Center for European Studies of East China University of Science and Technology, which hosted the forum. Professor Yang FengMin, Vice President of SIES and director of the Center for European Studies of East China University of Science and Technology, said in her speech that the study of Europe in Shanghai will effectively promote China's useful and beneficial exploration of China-EU and international cutting-edge issues. This forum was chaired by Associate Professor Sun Dingdong, School of Business, East China University of Science and Technology,and Associate Professor Zhang Ji, Assistant Dean of School of International Relations and Public Affairs, Fudan University. Twelve young scholars and students from East China Normal University, Tongji University, Fudan University, Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Institute of International Studies, East China University of Science and Technology delivered keynote speeches on the trend of European Integration, important issues facing the EU and its policy proposals, French-German leadership and its strategic orientation, as well as China-EU relations.Professor Dai Bingran, Honorary President of SIES, Professor Zhang Yongan, Director of Professor Committee of Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, Professor Liu Jun, Dean of the Institute of International Relations and Regional Development of East China Normal University, and Ye Jiang, researcher at the Shanghai Institute of International Studies made expert comments. Wu Yikang, consultant and honorary SIES summarized the youth forum. He believed that young talents from universities in Shanghai attending the forum and displaying the latest results of European studies fully demonstrated the great vitality of the new emerging forces in Shanghai European academia.
