On March 28, 2021, a briefing on the report on China Policies of European Countries in 2020 was jointly held in Fudan University by the SIES and the Center for China-Europe Relations at Fudan University. 2020 was the 45th Anniversary of the establishment of China-EU diplomatic relationship, being remarked by COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, the bilateral relations between them had developed fast after both sides overcoming many difficulties. Although China and the EU had made great progress in cooperation in many areas in 2020, there had also been profound changes in European policies towards China. In the foreseeable future, the European policy towards China would likely continue to follow the guiding principles of the EU’s China strategic paper issued in 2019, and be characterized by fragmented, complicated and multifaceted. The SIES and the Center for China-Europe Relations have co-organized a research team of the European Countries’ Policies towards China since 2017. This year has witnessed the fourth report on this topic. This series of reports has attracted some attention from the government departments, the academia and the public at home and abroad. After the briefing, a conference on the current state and future of the China-EU relations was jointly held. Joined by President of the SIES Xu Mingqi, Vice President of Fudan University Chen Zhimin, Dean of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University Wu Xinbo, Prof. Wu Yikang, Prof. Dai Bingran, Prof. Ding Chun, Prof. Ye Jiang, Prof. Zheng Chunrong, over 30 local experts on European studies attended the briefing and the conference.
