On December 11th, 2021, “the Conference for the 30th Anniversary of the Founding of the Shanghai Institute for European Studies and the Symposium of Retrospect and Prospect on the European Union and the China-Europe Relations” was held in the East China Normal University. This conference and symposium were part of the 2021 Important Academic Events of the Shanghai Federation of Social Sciences. They were hosted by the Shanghai Institute for European Studies (SIES), organized by the Center of European Studies and the Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies of the East China Normal University, and jointly sponsored by the Center for European Union Studies of the Shanghai International Studies University. Opening addresses were made by Mr. Wang Zhan, Chairman of the Shanghai Federation of Social Sciences, Mr. Feng Zhongping, Chairman of the Chinese Association of European Studies, Mr. Chen Dongxiao, President of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, Mr. Feng Shaolei, Director of the Center for Russian Studies of the East China Normal University, Mr. Zhou Aoying, Vice President of the East China Normal University, and Mr. XU Mingqi, President of the Shanghai Institute for European Studies. The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Wu Guanying, Dean of the School of Politics and International Relations of the East China Normal University. After the opening ceremony, keynote speeches were made by Mr. Wu Yikang, former president of the Shanghai Institute for European Studies, Mr. Dai Bingran, Honorary Director of the Center for European Studies of the Fudan University, Mr. Feng Zhongping, Director of the European Studies Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Chairman of the Chinese Association of European Studies, and Mr. Jiang Feng, Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party’s Committee of the Shanghai International Studies University. The session of keynote speeches was presided over by Mr. Cao Ziheng, supervisor of the Shanghai Institute for European Studies. Over 90 professors, scholars, Ph.D. candidates, and postgraduate Students took part in this conference and symposium.
