On April 29, 2024, the Shanghai Institute for European Studies held the first meeting of the 7th Council of 2024. President Ding Chun delivered a speech for the meeting, Vice President Wu Zhongyong made a summary of the meeting, and Secretary General Yang Haifeng presided over the meeting. The meeting had three main agendas. Firstly, SIES appointed Xue Sheng, Jiang Yunfei, Jiang Zunze, Li Guanjie, Ni Xiaoshan, Wang Le, Yan Shaohua, and Yan Xiaoxiao as the new members of the Academic Research Department, and President Ding Chun presented them with appointment certificates. Secondly, SIES launched the essay writing activity of the 13th Shanghai European Studies Youth Forum. Finally, SIES invited President Ding Chun, Vice President Liu Jun, Vice President Yu Jianhua, Vice President Zhang Yinghong, Vice President Shang Yuhong, and Vice President Wu Huiping to give situation reports around the European economy, Russia's domestic and foreign affairs, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the EU-NATO defense cooperation, China's relations with Central and Eastern European countries, and China-Germany relations. The convening of the Council took a new step to strengthen the self-construction of SIES.
