SIES Co-held the Launch of “Report on European Policy Towards China (2023)” and “EU's Great Powers and Regional Policies (2023)” and the Academic Seminar on “China-EU Relations in the Era of Great Transition”

On April 24, 2024, the Shanghai Institute for European Studies (SIES) and the Center for China-Europe Relations of the Institute of International Studies of Fudan University co-organized the launch of the “Report on European Policies Towards China (2023)” and “EU's Great Powers and Regional Policies (2023)” and the symposium on “China-EU Relations in the Era of Great Transition” in the Center for American Studies of Fudan University. More than 20 scholars from SIES, Fudan University, Tongji University, Shanghai International Studies University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies and Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences attended the conference. At the conference, Prof. Ding Chun, president of SIES, director of the Center for European Studies of Fudan University, and Prof. Wu Xinbo, director of the Institute of International Studies of Fudan University, made opening speeches. Associate Professor Jian Junbo, deputy director of the Center for China-Europe Relations (CCER), Dr. Yang Haifeng, secretary general of SIES, Researcher Zhang Yinghong, director of the Center for European Studies of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, and Prof. Wu Huiping, deputy director of the Center for German Studies of Tongji University, presided over the launch ceremony and the seminar. Prof. Xu Mingqi, honorary president of SIES and researcher of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, and Prof. Ding Chun, president of SIES and director of the Center for European Studies of Fudan University, made concluding remarks. After the launch of the report, the participating experts had a warm and in-depth discussion on the opportunities and challenges of the current Sino-European relations and the possible ways to promote the healthy and stable development of the Sino-European relations, which achieved good results. Reporters from Jiefang Daily, Wenhui Daily, Xinmin Evening News and other media participated in the conference.

The two annual reports released this time are “Report on European Policy towards China (2023)” and “EU's Great Powers and Regional Policies (2023)”, which were written by 20 scholars from SIES, Fudan University and other institutions and think tanks in Shanghai, as well as Capital Normal University. The Report on European Policy Towards China (2023) mainly elaborates on the domestic and international backgrounds of the EU and some European countries in dealing with their relations with China in 2023, as well as the motives and main connotations of their policies towards China, and analyzes the impact of their policies towards China in 2023 and the future trends. The EU's Great Powers and Regional Policies (2023) discusses the EU's main policies towards China, the United States, Russia, India, Japan, ASEAN, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America in 2023, and analyzes the background, motives, impacts and future trends of its policies towards these countries and regions. These two reports, jointly organized, initiated, composed and edited by the SIES and the Center for China-Europe Relations of the Institute of International Studies of Fudan University, have become an important platform for academic exchanges, joint research and promotion of academic progress among scholars in the community of European Studies in Shanghai.
