On the afternoon of March 10th, 2023, the release and seminar of "Biennial Report of European Economies(2021-2022)" sponsored by the Shanghai Institute for European Studies (SIES)  and hosted by the Institute of European Studies of East China University of Science and Technology(ECUST) was held in ECUST. Ding Chun, President of the SIES and Director of the Centre for European Studies of Fudan University, and Yang Fengmin, Director of the Academic Committee on European Union Studies of the SIES and director of the Institute of European Studies of ECUST, delivered a speech and summary at the meeting. More than 20 Shanghai experts and scholars participated in the meeting.

The main authors of "Biennial Report of European Economies(2021-2022)" are Xu Mingqi, Ding Chun, Zhu Yufang, Xue Sheng, Jiang Yunfei, Wang Yuzhu, Shang Yuhong, Xin Hua, Zhou Hua, Qiu Qiang, Sun Dingdong, Yang Fengmin, etc. The report provides a summary and review of the economic performance of major European countries and regions and China-EU relations from 2021 to 2022, as well as some prospects for their future development. In 2022, the energy crisis and inflation caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict hit the European economy hard. Due to this impact, the growth rate of the EU economy has dropped significantly in the second half of 2022. However, due to differences in the degree of dependence on Russian energy and the sensitivity of each member countries' economic structures to energy price increases, the degree of impact on the economy is not the same. The Russia-Ukraine conflict has also dealt a major blow to solidarity and common economic policy within the EU. The EU's energy transition measures, as well as policy measures to continue to support Ukraine, address the fiscal deficit, and deal with migration and refugees, will continue to be the focus of coordination within the EU in 2023. In the context of the new shocks of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the energy crisis and the hindered economic recovery, despite the twists and turns in China-Eu relations, the importance of China-Eu relations has not been weakened, but the two sides have further recognized the value of China-Eu relations and the importance of maintaining strategic partnership and expanding areas of cooperation. Although the differences in political structure and values between China and the EU, promoting normal exchanges of economic, trade, scientific and technological cooperation and safeguarding the common interests of China and the EU in economy and trade should be the main line of China-Eu relations in 2023.
