Germany's General Election: What Do We See?

          The Fifth Shanghai Youth Forum for European Studies
 
On the morning of October 26th of 2013, the fifth Shanghai Youth Forum for European Studies was held in Tongji University under the joint-sponsorship of the Shanghai Institute for European Studies and the Center for German Studies, Tongji University. The central theme of this forum was: "Germany's General Election: What Do We See?" The keynote speech for this forum was made by Prof. Zheng Chunrong, deputy director of the Center for German Studies, Tongji University and vice president of the Shanghai Institute for European Studies. In his speech, Prof. Zheng first introduced his on-site visits of the Germany's general election on invitation of the German Academic Exchange Center (DAAD), and then analyzed the campaign topics, campaign strategies, and electoral outcomes of the various political parties of the Germany. Finally he made his own comments and predictions over the possibilities of cabinet forming of the new German administration and the future trends of Germany's policies. After his speech, the young participants of this forum made enthusiastic discussions with Prof. Zheng over the issues of common concerns. This forum was moderated by Dr. Yang Haifeng, who is the coordinator of the Youth Forum Project of SIES, and participated in by over 80 young scholars and students from various universities and academic institutions of Shanghai. Some distinguished members of SIES also presented themselves on this forum, including SIES's honorary president Prof. Wu Yikang, its secretary-general Dr. Cao Ziheng, and other members of SIES secretariat.
